I think i’m putting this up on the podcast simply because folks are emailing me non stop about how to get their hands on this and well the consumer is always right. This song is the song featured in the trailer for “Laugh at my pain” by Kevin Hart. I have to say this song has quietly been a successful one, won’t go as far as to say it’s gone as far as “Moviendo Cuerpo” but considering I dropped it around 2009 for the first time and it’s relevant 3 years later shows it’s a hell of a song. Thank you for the support on this one..it’s good to be back baby.

This is one of my favorite songs. I originally recorded this back in 2009 for a project I was working on. It speaks on sobering moments of life or in more depth about going through moments in life that change who you are but in the end you find strength in them to come out improved in the end. I’ve gotten feedback on this track for years from listeners each with their own take on it..I though am glad that it’s touched people enough to make them want to reach out to me to share the experience. That’s really what we strive for as musicians when we create lyrical landscapes based on day to day or year to year experiences.

Over the years I have become a rabid fan of historical/Time piece influenced television shows such as “The Tudors”, “Spartacus”, “Robin Hood” and most recently find myself completely obsessed over “Downton Abbey” (It’s free on PBS!). Since most of the shows I mentioned are supposed to take place before the birth of pop culture most of the music is classical. Which is a passion I call my biggest kept secret, I love strings, I love piano solos..what producer worth his weight doesn’t. So while tinkering around with my set up I started making music I thought fittingly combined both our era and the era’s where classical music was the only game in town. I truly do hope you enjoy the next few beats i’ll be dropping over the next few weeks. It seems this is now becoming my new addiction and I promise that the music will only get more elegant as I keep producing and venturing into uncharted hip-hop waters (Ummm I dropped “Chopin” which samples heavily a Chopin solo).

Props to Dj Corbett and Black light music for the beat and the hook. This is one of my deeper tracks which first surfaced around the release of “The genesis” mixtape this year. Since then it just sat there collecting dust until someone offered to remaster it. Lyrically I love this track and it’s message. All I can say is enjoy it because I honestly really enjoyed making this song. This is part of my upcoming release “The best of me” which i’m hoping to release around new years. As always thank you for your continued support..I can’t even believe the love you guys are showing me across the world via this podcast.

Happy to announce the relaunch of my podcast. It’s been a few years since i’ve put stuff out via the podsphere but I have so much music piling up that I just want to get it out there. If you are a singer or an emcee you definitely should subscribe as you’ll be getting access to instrumentals that otherwise you’d probably never have access to. If you are the fan of hip-hop you should subscribe as well, i’ll be dropping crew cuts from time to time which you’ll definitely want to have as they’ll be complete exclusives. I am not an expert but I do listen to it occasionally and have to remind myself that most of it was created hundreds of years ago by men so in love with music in many cases it drove them to insanity and downright compulsion.

There sure are a ton of people making money in the music industry that don’t actually make music and for good reason. An artist after x amount of time needs to start outsourcing these aspects of the pursuit of a career in music. Promotion takes a special kind of grind..a grind that in todays over saturation is quite frankly more difficult than it should be. Personally I run a hip hop website..this website is used to promote new music from established and up and coming artists. That means the email inboxes are outrageously full of emails from artists looking for a feature. Every email starts off exactly the same “You gotta hear this”. More often than not it’s the complete opposite, and highly likely i’ll just block all incoming emails from that artist. I know promoters, managers, a&r’s these people built up a reputation. When I see something in my inbox from them I know it’s official, nothing i’m likely to regret having to sit through. This of course leaves me to possibly miss out on some great music being sent my way..I just refuse to sit through the bullshit just to get to that one good song out of five hundred. Chances are when you email a blogger, a website editor, a journalist it goes straight into the trash. You have two choices..get out there..step to the people who represent these sites..make yourself known to us personally, and create your own or hire someone with a respectable reputation to represent you and create that buzz for you. This game to get from point a to point b requires co-signing. A co-sign is built on a reputation.

I know each artist, producer, engineer, recreational tinkerer, etc has his or her own preferred DAW. Hell I know people who would still run Cool Edit pro if it were industry acceptable. As creative individuals we spend a ton of time testing, researching, and investing in emerging technologies both software and hardware. It’s all about the work flow and what best suits your needs. I’ve done logic, pro-tools,garageband, cool edit pro, Cakewalk (True early adopter), etc…each has had its plus and negative aspect. Out of curiosity I gave Ableton a try..I had read about it in producer forums and had seen a few videos on it..seemed cool but then again I have been comfortable using two separate DAW’s. I installed it and it sat on my desktop for a good two or so months before I even got around to touching it.

I’ll say this… the first few hours can be crucial to whether you’ll adapt a DAW or new work flow. In the first hour I pretty much ran through every setting..midi set up..rewiring, etc step and got to go. If you have ever used Garageband you will be ready to use at least 60% of Ableton..if you’ve also used logic or pro-tools then you are around 85% ready to go full on with it right out of the box. Just a few slight differences which just from experience alone you’ll figure out. I’m writing this post today around 5 weeks later..my work output it absolutely outrageous! Like 1/3 as long as it used to take me..this gives me so much more time to do pre-production and spend time conceptualizing my soundscapes..recreating them via Ableton for me is much faster than anything i’ve used before. I’m not saying give up what you are using but for sure i’ll say give it a shot. Especially if you need great sequencing. Personally I haven’t used anything else in these 5 weeks..Ableton with a set of midi pads can be the greatest tool in your arsenal. It’s also a hell of a lot more cost effective than splurging on an MPC.

I’ve been grinding lately over midi pads and midi keyboards on my symphony psycho tip preparing my first beat cd in 5 years. As an emcee I know how hard it is to find quality beats and the fact that 99.9% of emcees only jack beats. I am putting out a few volumes of this series over the next two years offering emcees the ability to spit over beats that aren’t in commercial use, I really want to hear some hot shit riding over these beats.

This beat tape will be limited to ten beats..spanning close to 40 minutes. Limited to demo and promotional usage only.

I have an abundance of beats just sitting on my drive doing nothing so i’m putting them out there for the emcees to consume, break down, and reconstruct with their flows. My beats lately have been bordering on extremely eclectic so if you’ve been looking for something different to spit on..this is definitely something you want to grab.

Been tearing up soundclick and a few other sites since I started putting my beats out publicly just to gauge interest. The response has been truly overwhelming.

The reality of pursuing a dream in music..

I read a lot about the young hungry emcees new to the game. Rarely do you hear the middle story between that dream and utter disappointment. The reality of the industry is that you likely won’t make it but if you just manage to do it you have walls of bullshit to overcome just to get the product out. I know emcees who’ve been trying to land that first hit for a decade and a half, you probably know one too personally. Of course there are variants to the definition of “Making it” or “Hit”..some see those things on a national scale, others see it as people knowing their music regardless of how few. The best piece of advice regarding music I ever received came from a high school music teacher. He was an irish guy who was still chasing his dreams early into his 40′s, he would teach for 6 hours a day and then do gigs on the upper west side with his band. He sat me down when he realized I was considering pursuing it and told me “Have fun with it Don’t do it for a living, do it for your love for the music. When you stop having fun and stop loving it as much it’s time to walk away”.

Years later I look back on that moment and realize what he meant. I also think it’s what keeps me open minded to blending my own music. Every time I pass a musician playing on the streets on NYC it brings me back to that moment all over again. I’ve known and met many dope emcees over the years who’ve come to buzzing on front page to end up just walking down an alternate path to life. I’ve seen others I never thought in a million years had a shot in hell sneak in and get their 15 seconds and go. Often it leaves you scratching your head but that’s music..the right verse over the right beat can literally change your life.
